Sampan Education is a bilingual Montessori organization that focusses on providing best in class Preschool and Kindergarten education to students through out China. Headquartered in Beijing, China with an international office in Philadelphia, PA, USA, Sampan Education Group owns and operates over 50  International Montessori Preschool and Kindergartens as well as a 650 acre learning farm for the facilitation of nature focused education and exploration.

Our average class sizes is roughly 25 students for Preschool and kindergarten with at least three teacher per class, making the pursuit of excellence and high achievement realistic targets

The majority of the 1000 people currently employed via Sampan Education Group are

Chinese as this is a Chinese owner organization . Our amazing business staff will also deal with work permits, visas, purchasing flights, etc., as well as helping you with any minor housing issues (bill paying etc).

We are seeking to recruit English Teachers who ideally are native English speakers, with recent experience of education in the USA, Europe, Australia or Canada who have good examination results and who are able to offer enthusiasm and commitment to our school.  We believe in equal opportunity and encourage all to apply but want all applicants to understand that mastery of English is a critical requirement.

English Teachers will support our work throughout the school in the following ways: supporting individuals and small groups of children in class, assisting the teacher with displays of pupils’ work, preparation of resources for lessons, marking children’s work, hearing children read, creating powerpoint and interactive whiteboard resources, helping with school assemblies and performances, setting up the classroom for lessons.  The list is comprehensive and broad – our English Teachers make a great difference in our school, and are very important members of every students experience.

ABOUT MONTESSORI

The Montessori Method of education, developed by Dr. Maria Montessori, is a child-centered educational approach based on scientific observations of children from birth to adulthood. Dr. Montessori’s Method has been time tested, with over 100 years of success in diverse cultures throughout the world.  It is a view of the child as one who is naturally eager for knowledge and capable of initiating learning in a supportive, thoughtfully prepared learning environment. It is an approach that values the human spirit and the development of the whole child—physical, social, emotional, cognitive.

Components necessary for a program to be considered authentically Montessori include multiage groupings that foster peer learning, uninterrupted blocks of work time, and guided choice of work activity. In addition, a full complement of specially designed Montessori learning materials are meticulously arranged and available for use in an aesthetically pleasing environment.  The teacher, child, and environment create a learning triangle. The classroom is  prepared by the teacher to encourage independence, freedom within limits, and a sense of order. The child, through individual choice, makes use of what the environment offers to develop himself, interacting with the teacher when support and/or guidance is needed. Multiage groupings are a hallmark of the Montessori Method: younger children learn from older children; older children reinforce their learning by teaching concepts they have already mastered. This arrangement also mirrors the real world, where individuals work and socialize with people of all ages and dispositions.

Dr. Montessori observed that children experience sensitive periods, or windows of opportunity, as they grow. As their students develop, Montessori teachers match appropriate lessons and materials to these sensitive periods when learning is most naturally absorbed and internalized. In early childhood, Montessori students learn through sensory-motor activities, working with materials that develop their cognitive powers through direct experience: seeing, hearing, tasting, smelling, touching, and movement. In the elementary years, the child continues to organize his thinking through work with the Montessori learning materials and an interdisciplinary curriculum as he passes from the concrete to the abstract.  He begins the application of his knowledge to real-world experiences. This organization of information, facts and figures, prepares the child for the world of adolescence, when thought and emotion evolve into understanding more abstract, universal concepts such as equity, freedom, and justice.

While there are many components that are integral to quality Montessori implementation, the American Montessori Society recognizes 5 core components as essential in Montessori schools—properly trained Montessori teachers, multi-age classrooms, use of Montessori materials, child-directed work, and uninterrupted work periods. Fully integrating all of them should be a goal for all Montessori schools.

THE CHILDREN

At Sampan Education Group the most important aspect of our organization is our students. Typically a student is very hard working and well mannered.  Most new staff found our school a very calm and creative place to work. Our pupils tend to settle in very quickly to life at Sampan Education.  Sampan is proud of being the highest quality Preschool and Kindergarten in China and strive to improve our students outcome every single day.  One of the key aspects that makes our school so attractive besides our quality Montessori program is our english language focus. Our parents expect their child to learn english and it is our responsibility to ensure we deliver on our promise.

Our parents tend to be professional people who have high expectations for their children and our school. Most work for the government, mutli-national companies or run their own businesses.

LIVING AND TEACHING IN CHINA

Living in China, as with any new country, is both an exhilarating and occasionally a frustrating experience. It is a wonderful country with plenty of opportunities for travel, cultural exchange and learning Mandarin. Sometimes however we need to remember that we are guests in the country and are expected to observe certain cultural sensitivities. Things tend to happen much more slowly than many of us would like, so if you get irritated when things do not immediately go to plan, consider very carefully before making your application.

Most staff live reasonably near the school (in fact within a 10 - 40 minutes drive, depending on the traffic!). There are sports/hotel/club facilities available in the area as well as very good restaurants, entertainment venues and shopping centers.

You are not expected to know any Chinese before you come here. The school will pay for you to have Chinese lessons once per week as part of your contract. Learning Chinese can be fun and a great advantage when living here!

Shopping in the local markets, dodging the chaotic traffic on your bike, flying a kite, people-watching in the park, joining the early morning tai chi (exercise), searching for antiques — all these fascinating opportunities are provided by life in China.

Finally …

The Sampan Education Groups aims to recruit staff of the highest caliber to join an excellent, friendly school. We require employees with a professional, flexible and positive attitudes who can make an energetic and enthusiastic contribution to our development. Working at Sampan Education Group will stand you in good stead in the future and broaden your horizons.

Warmest Regards,
